Un-Making Image is an ongoing long term project taking place in Rotterdam, that looks critically at the processes and tools of image-making.  By broadening and introducing an inclusive notion of ‘image’, it investigates the role it plays in relations of power, to activate a discourse on matters of local socio-political and historical relevance.

The discussions and research culminate in a series of public events as well as a series of corresponding publications. Artists, writers, photographers, architects, philosophers, enthusiasts, etc, all welcome to join the discussion.

In its first year, it consisted of two main themes including “Optics; Photography in its Entirety” and “Image and Power”. In its second year, the series broadened the notion of image from solely the realm of the visual, to a general and inclusive one where other forms of imagery like mental or verbal image making (and their socio-political implications), could also be collectively discussed.
